Stars on Baikal festival to be held September 2-18 in Irkutsk with INK’s support
This year, the participants of the festival are the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra, Stradivari ensemble of the Mariinsky Theatre, Questa Musica ensemble, State Chamber Orchestra “Virtuosos of Moscow”, Moscow chamber ensemble “Moscow Solo”, A.A. Yurlov Russian Chapel choir, and Governor’s Symphony Orchestra of the Irkutsk Regional Philharmonic.
“The upcoming festival will be unprecedented in scale, lasting a whole 17 days, and our concert venues will be actively involved in this incredible artistic festival whirlpool. There will be a total of 25 concerts with various programs: chamber music, solo performances, orchestra, choir, theatrical pieces,” said the artistic director of the festival, People’s Artist of Russia Denis Matsuev.
Yuri Bashmet and Igor Kostolevsky will present a musical and theatrical piece called “When Love Comes” based on a story by Yuri Kazakov Blue and Green. Vladimir Spivakov will team up with Denis Matsuev in two programs – A. Schnittke’s Concerto for Piano and String Orchestra performed by the Virtuosos of Moscow and the Sonata Night.
This year, Hibla Gerzmava, Nikolay Lugansky, Sergey Skorokhodov, Pavel Milyukov, Alexandr Ramm and other solo stars will appear at the festival. The program will also feature concerts of the winners of international contests of young musicians. And one of the highlights of the festival will definitely be G. Verdi’s Requiem performed by the Russian Youth Orchestra under the baton of Dmitry Yurovsky.
Stars on Baikal is a yearly international classical music festival based in Irkutsk founded in 2004 on the initiative of Denis Matsuev and the administration of the Irkutsk Musical Theater (Zagursky Musical Theater). The festival traditionally consists of 12-15 concerts, as well as workshops and meet-the-artist events. Irkutsk Oil Company has been the general partner of the festival since 2013.
