Irkutsk Oil Company (INK) has developed a guidebook of rare and endangered species of flora and fauna listed in the Red Books of the Russian Federation and the Irkutsk Region. The guidebook is designed to improve the effectiveness of environmental protection measures and minimize environmental impacts.

It has become the result of field studies conducted by the company in the fields during the summer and winter periods. Additional winter monitoring is planned for early 2025.

The purpose of the creation of guidebook is to raise awareness of Irkutsk Oil Company employees and contractors about biodiversity in the areas of the company's operations in the Irkutsk Region, Krasnoyarsk Region and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), as well as the conservation of flora and fauna.

The guidebook contains information on 17 species of rare plants and 18 species of rare animals, and includes descriptions, photographs and information on habitats. This allows our staff to quickly identify rare species and take appropriate action to protect them. All data is also entered into company's corporate geoinformation system in the “Ecology and Nature Management” section, which allows for the display of georeferenced information.

Irkutsk Oil Company has been actively implementing and supporting the principles of responsible environmental management and biodiversity conservation for many years. The Company holds annual volunteer clean-up events, environmental lessons in schools, and organizes tree planting. Biodiversity conservation programs are implemented in the areas where Irkutsk Oil Company operates: participation in reforestation, installation of animal feeders, stocking of the Lena River and the Bratsk Reservoir. In 2024, the company also released about 520,000 pelyad fry into the Vilyuyskoye reservoir in the Mirninsky district and initiated the project “Reacclimatization of forest bison in Central Yakutia”, the main goal of which is to create sustainable, free-living herds of forest bison in Western Yakutia.
