INK ranks among top ten environmentally responsible petroleum companies
Results of the fourth annual environmental responsibility rating among petroleum companies were presented on November 30 by World Wildlife Fund Russia, in partnership with KREON Group, with participation of National Rating Agency and UNDP/GEF project – Ministry of Nature of Russia and Ministry of Energy of the RF. Total of 22 companies covering 97% of oil and gas condensate production in Russia took part in the study. This integrated assessment of environmental responsibility has been performed since 2014 to obtain fair and comparable information about the level of environmental impact by players of the Russian petroleum sector; Irkutsk Oil Company has been participating in the rating since the very beginning.
In 2017, Sakhalin Energy was declared the leader of environmental responsibility rating, while the second and the third places were awarded to Exxon Neftegaz and Surgut Neftegaz, respectively. According to WWF Russia management, the set of criteria used to calculate the rating enables to obtain objective information about environmental activity of companies, while public nature of the rating enhances the quality of ecological risks management.
Methodology of the rating was developed by WWF and undergoes continuous improvement, including based on feedback of petroleum companies. 28 criteria grouped in three thematic sectors are used for assessment: ecological management, environmental impact and information disclosure.
